This is an exercise to learn the basic kalimba chords from the book Learn to play African Kalimba. The instrument we are using is the 15-key kalimba, also called nyunga nyunga. These basic chords are used in different ways in the songs featured in the book. You can practice the chords regularly and use it as a warm-up exercise. On the picture above you can see the key numbering used. You can memorise them, or label your keys with a marker or sticker.
Read from top to bottom then repeat without stopping. Play key 5 and 9 together, then 1 and 15, then 1 and 13, then 5 and 9, etc.
Play the basic kalimba chords without any rests or breaks, a chord on each count 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – etc.
